Market Background
Romania, an eastern European country (sometimes divided into southern Europe), has a short coastline on the Black Sea, and is bounded by the Danube River with Serbia and Bulgaria. Romania is the largest country in Southeast Europe and ranks 12th in Europe. Bucharest, the capital, is the largest financial center in the region. Its major cities are brasov and constanta, with a land area of 238,391 square kilometers. As of 2013, the total population of Romania was 21,296,000. The urban population accounts for 55.2%, while the rural population accounts for 44.8%. Romanian is the official language, and Hungarian is the main minority language. Romanian foreign trade: foreign trade is mainly by sea, and constanta is the most important seaport. Exports are mainly petroleum products, petroleum equipment, tractors, trucks and agricultural products, while imports are mainly machinery and equipment and industrial raw materials such as iron ore, natural rubber, coke and nonferrous metals. Romania's economic growth rate is very fast, ranking first in the European Union, so it is called "Tiger", and its overall situation ranks middle and upper among the Central and Eastern European member countries of the European Union. However, recently affected by the financial tsunami, Romania's economy was severely hit and plunged into a serious economic recession.
According to Eurostat data, in June 2015, the production and construction industry in 28 EU countries decreased by 0.5% year-on-year and 0.3% quarter-on-quarter. Eurozone countries decreased by 2.3% year-on-year and 0.7% quarter-on-quarter. Among them, Romania's production and construction industry declined by 13.1% year-on-year, ranking first in the European Union. This was followed by Portugal, Slovakia and the Netherlands, with decreases of 10.3%, 5% and 3.5% respectively. Countries with fast growth are Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Spain, with growth rates of 28.7%, 9.8%, 8.0% and 6.8% respectively. In June 2014, the three countries with the fastest year-on-year growth in industrial production were Greece, Sweden and Romania, with growth rates of 1.6%, 0.7% and 0.6% respectively, while the industrial production in the Eurozone and the European Union declined by 0.8% during the same period. In addition, the three countries with the largest decline were Estonia (6.6%↓), Lithuania (4.7↓) and Belgium (4.5↓). Among EU foreign countries, China has become Romania's second largest source of imports, accounting for 16.17%, an increase of 1.05 percentage points over the same period in 2013. Ranked 6th among the export destination countries outside the EU, accounting for 3.87% of Romania's total exports to countries outside the EU during the same period.
